Frequently Asked Questions: Wrinkle Reduction with Collagen Building
How does it work?
The light of the laser gently heats the area just below the surface of the skin. This stimulates the layers of collagen (the supporting structure of the skin), giving the skin a younger, fresher look, with wrinkles and fine lines reduced and softened.
What areas can be treated?
All areas of the face and neck.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the area being treated. It will typically take 20 minutes to treat a full face.
Is it painful?
Anesthesia is not required - the skin is cooled during the procedure, so the effect is that of having an ice cube pressed against the face. In some cases a mild tingling sensation can be felt.
Is it safe?
Complications are extremely rare. In less than 1% of cases, skin lightening or darkening may occur. It is advisable to wear sunblock when in the sun during the month following laser treatment.
How many treatments are required?
Typically, four to five treatments delivered at four week intervals are required.
What results can I expect?
Production of new collagen is a natural process, occurring over time, so improvement will not be immediately noticeable. Changes will be gradual and should become noticeable after the second or third treatment.
Can collagen remodeling be combined with other treatments?
Yes, collagen development can be combined with other technologies that improve the surface of the skin, such as microdermabrasion as part of an overall skin care regimen. Your doctor can discuss the various options appropriate for you.
Is it permanent?
The improvement should stabilize after about 12 months. Maintenance sessions are recommended every six months to maintain the result.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are minimal and are generally limited to a slight redness of the skin which should not persist for more than a few minutes.
Can I still wear makeup?
Yes, you can re-apply makeup immediately after the procedure.
